You are invited to a FREE premiere screening of Luke Leonard's short film, ANTIQUATED PLAY. Inspired by Mercutio's "Queen Mab" speech from Romeo and Juliet, the film follows Mercutio, a contemporary cowboy, who wakes from a massive hangover and finds a book anonymously placed next to him. The book, a Complete Works of William Shakespeare, contains a porthole to dreams that can only be reached through reading Romeo and Juliet. Mab, a woman wearing a niqāb and abaya, serves as the temptress and dream guide for those who read the play. Mercutio is encouraged to dream of love only to fall for the temptress herself. A struggle ensues as a man attempts to connect to a woman despite their differences.

Running time approximately 30 minutes.

"I found Urchin impossible to turn away from. . .a nightmarish urban fantasy with flashes of compasion, and a redemptive outcome that is both unexpected and surprisingly moving. . . .It reminded me of (Aronofsky's) PI."
---- Marvin Kaye, Editor,
H. P. Lovecraft's Magazine of Horror

"A fascinating movie with disturbing imagery... if you see it you will probably go to hell."
---- WBAI NY

"A search for Shangri-La deep in the subways ...a hollow earth fantasy from an aging crackpot. . . give(s) undiscovered names a chance to shine."
---- Neil Genzlinger, New York Times

"(An) aggressively low-budget movie. . .Urchin captures the eerie rhythm of the subway at night."
---- Julia Wallace, Village Voice

Here's the news:

We are proud to announce that URCHIN is being distributed worldwide by a major film distribution company.

There will be a theatrical run in limited markets in February, and then a worldwide DVD and on-demand release in mid 2007.

Good stuff!

The Enemy is working on our next film. We are in the preparation stage, and will enter pre-production in mid January. (KuruMovie.com) This one has cannibals.

URCHIN is done!

It's August 31st 2006 and twenty minutes ago we made the final sound tweaks. Boom! We started filming in February of 2005, so it took a year and a half. Pretty fine for our first feature. I'll have some exciting news about distribution to announce publicly soon, so check this space.

My company The Enemy (FaceTheEnemy.com) will be in production again this winter, and 2 Cities Productions (2cps.com) is gearing up for their next theatrical extravaganzoid in March, and this winter they will shoot a Martial Arts Short film by URCHIN's Second Unit DP Abe Heisler.

Keep in touch!

John Harlacher

We are very close!

It's June 29th, and I am writing this from Round House music, (RoundhouseMusic.net) where we are putting the final touches on our sound design. It's working really nicely. The film will sound as good as it looks. And it looks good. Greg Orsi's cartoon credit sequence blows me away(gregorsi.com). I want to make a whole animated feature now. Our color correction is nearly complete, and Bryce Barros, our effects artist, has come up with some amazing stuff. The sequence where The Kid shocks The Outside Man to death (played by Emmanuel Goldstein of 2600 mag(2600.com)) is the highlight.

On a that note, here's a big shoutout to anyone discovering this site from the 2600 or HOPE6 sites. We will be screening an in-progress version of URCHIN at that hacker conference on July 22nd at midnight. If you'll be there, drop me a line:

JohnH@UrchinTheMovie.com

More info on in-progress screenings soon. Finished screenings soon too. I can't wait for you to see it.
